Camera Shopping

So, I've been thinking about buying a really nice digital camera. I know, I am a little behind the times. But I figure better late than never, right? And because of the fact that I don't know too much about what to look for in a camera, I thought I'd do a little research on finding the right camera for me. In my research, I found an article about shopping for a digital camera. Here are some of the pointers the article gives:

1. Learn the lingo. Without knowing the jargon, it can be difficult knowing what you are looking for, looking at, and what you are buying.
2. Decide which features are most important to you depending for what specifically you will use the camera.
3. Read consumer product reviews in order to know the performance of each camera. Read as many reviews as you can to make sure you get the good, the bad, and the ugly about each brand.
4. Go out and buy it with confidence!

So, I am still in the first stage right now, but I welcome any tips, advice, or recommendations about great cameras that you have. Anyone?

you can research all you want...but then also go to the store and actually see them ..hold them...see how they fit and actually look to the eye. thats what we did

Yeah. That is good advice, Jessie. Thanks! My only concern with that is that I feel pressured when I go into buying something that I don't necessarily want. Yes, I know. I just need to learn to say no. But those sales people are so manipulative! Thanks again, Jessie.

jessie is right on Charlie! I would consider the Cannon Power Shot A580 for a "mid-size ride" That is my middle camera and I really like it a lot. I use a little Jazz that I cary in my purse for general use, and then my "heavy hitter" is my Kodak 650 10x optical zoom.

But I think the Cannon is a really good all around, affordable Good camera.

Good pointers ladies. We have a Canon PowerShot from about 6 1/2 years ago that needs to replaced. I really like Canon, so I think I might check out the A580 you mentioned, beachwalker!

Charly, if you do all the research and know the lingo, don't feel intimidated about going in to look. Ask for specific cameras to see and just let them know you have done your research. Reports have their info but first-hand knowledge from sales people is also sometimes helpful. I am sure you can find some chat rooms or blogs with first-hand knowledge from consumers, too. Good luck!
