How Important Are Online Reviews?

When looking into buying something online, do you ever look at consumer reviews? And if you see bad reviews, will you not buy from them? Or do you just assume that the ones leaving reviews are only the unsatisfied, angry ones. Those good reviewers are out there, but just don't participate?

I am looking into buying some kitchen appliances, and am worried about some of the reviews I have seen online.

They are crucial BECAUSE if 85% of those that bought the same thing are NOT pleased, 85% cannot be wrong. Of course, that's only the huge purchases. Don't you read the reviews if you are booking a hotel online? I do and have NEVER been disappointed. Think about it.
