So, I've been thinking about buying a really nice digital camera. I know, I am a little behind the times. But I figure better late than never, right? And because of the fact that I don't know too much about what to look for in a camera, I thought I'd do a little research on finding the right camera for me. In my research, I found an article about shopping for a digital camera. Here are some of the pointers the article gives:
1. Learn the lingo. Without knowing the jargon, it can be difficult knowing what you are looking for, looking at, and what you are buying.
2. Decide which features are most important to you depending for what specifically you will use the camera.
3. Read consumer product reviews in order to know the performance of each camera. Read as many reviews as you can to make sure you get the good, the bad, and the ugly about each brand.
4. Go out and buy it with confidence!
So, I am still in the first stage right now, but I welcome any tips, advice, or recommendations about great cameras that you have. Anyone?
I just came across this article about four foods that energize while tasting great. I figure if I pair these foods with my energy supplement, I should be good to go! So, I thought I'd share what the article said about which foods to eat to increase your energy levels:
I am having the worst time staying awake during work, so I thought I'd do a little research and find ways to increase my energy throughout my LONG workday. So, instead of putting my report together, here I am. I hope you all get as much out of these tips as I did:
I've read that one apple will give you the energy equivalent to one cup of coffee. Even if that may not be true, it is worth a shot, right?
Drink more water.
Take time to stretch. Take a few minutes when you are feeling a bit sluggish to stretch and get the blood flowing. This actually really rejuvenates me.
Walk around on your breaks and on your lunch hour. I find that if I go walking instead of taking a nap during my breaks, I have more energy and am more awake.
Sometimes when I am really drowsy, I take Zantrex. This little energy pill gives me enough energy to get through my workday, my workout, and my online grad school courses at night. It is pretty much a miracle worker.
Let more natural sunlight into your office. When it is dark, it makes you more sleepy. I know it is tempting to turn off the lights, but try to avoid it. Believe me! It doesn't help improve energy levels.
Today I got to thinking about life would be like without direct deposit or any of the other finer things of life. I am only 22 (turning 23 soon!), so life has always had these things. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to live a few centuries earlier and not have all these conveniences. Then I think about it some more and decide...no, thank you.
So here is my ode to anything financially direct (direct debit, direct payments, direct deposit). Ok, so maybe this not so much an ode, but a list of benefits.
Direct Deposit:
One less trip to the bank.
Not having to wait for other in front of you to figure out how to use the ATM machine when all you want to do is deposit a simple paycheck.
Not having to wait in line IN the bank for people to stop chatting it up with the teller while there is a huge line behind them. Hello! Courtesy, people!
Getting your money in your account while you are still slaving away at work. It always perks up my day a little just knowing that the money is sitting there waiting for me to clock out and go shopping....or pay bills.
Feel free to take vacation days on paydays (especially if it falls on a Friday). The money will be in your account whether you go to work that day or not.
I've found that it usually posts faster than if you manually deposit the check.
Save some moolah by not having to buy or use as many envelopes, paper, stamps, and your time, gosh dang it!
Never having to worry about forgetting to pay a bill.
Eliminating the stress of continually checking your online bank statement to see if they cash your payment so you can avoid a late fee for forgetting to send it out on time.
I just came across an article on Yahoo's homepage ranking U.S. cities on the most attractive residents, the smartest, the cleanest, and cities with the wildest weekend parties. Here are some of the results. See if any of your hometowns rank:
Most Attractive:Miami. I wonder if they were voted number one because of the lack of real clothing.
Least Attractive: For the second year in a row, Philadelphia is the city with the least attractive people. Well, at least they were the last of the top 25.
Wildest Weekend: It is no surprise to me that Las Vegas and New Orleans took the top two spots for this category.
Least Friendly AND Least Intelligent: Drumroll please.... Los Angeles is not only mean, but not too smart. See, the things that Paris Hilton does to the city she lives in.
Friendliest: Since we know that L.A. won for the opposite category, who took this spot? Charleston, South Carolina. Back country charm? Friendly is good.
Smartest Locals: Seattle, Washington won the top spot for t his category. The smartest city in the United States. That is pretty amazing. Remind me to ask the locals for some Seattle ratings if I ever need to buy some form of electronics or stay at a nice hotel in the area.
Best City for Shopping: It is no surprise to me that New York is the top-ranked. But sadly, it also ranked last for peace, quiet, and affordability. Go figure.
Most Affordable City: Since New York is out because of the major expenses, where could you live and keep the most money in your bank account? San Antonio, Texas.
Quietest Place to Live:: Sante Fe, New Mexico is the quietest place to live while ranking last for being a party town. What? Are you telling me those two can't go hand in hand?
Cleanest City: Portland, Oregon is the cleanest city in the United States. Germ-a-phobs unite!
Messiest City: I feel like this is sort of a cheap shot. New Orleans, Louisiana was ranked the top city that needs to clean up their town. Give them a break, for heaven's sake. They are still working on cleaning up after Katrina. What a sucker punch, Yahoo! And New Orleans, if you are reading this...I think you are a beautiful city.
Best for a Romantic Escape: Honolulu. Awww... one day I will go there. But I've seen pictures. So, that either means it is true that it is the most romantic city in the U.S. or it is a requirement to only take romantic pictures. You decide.
Best Family Vacation City: First, let me tell you who ranked last...Las Vegas.. Again, another "go figure". Orlando, Florida is ranked number one for the family-vacation-friendly city in the United States. Gotta love the mouse.
This weekend, I went to Bestbuy and on my receipt I noticed a link to a survey. It just got me thinking if other people fill those out too. I know that JC Penny's, Target, Wal-mart, and now BestBuy has those. Personally, I don't fill out Walmart's or Target's surveys because of the "You might win 10,000 dollars". I mean, really, what are the chances? But I love filling out the ones for JC Penny's because you automatically get the 10% or 15% off coupon for your next purchase. Other than that, the only time I will fill out any of those customer satisfaction surveys is if I had a horrendous experience and want to let someone know about it. So, what about you?
As scary as it can be, it is interesting to get inside the minds of men. Probably by use of survey software, AskMen.com delved a little deeper into what men really think about love, money, and work. Here are some of the results:
78% consider faith and spirituality important.
88% read women's magazines.
70% of men believe strongly in marriage.
69% would never cheat on their significant other.
84% think that both partners should be responsible for birth control.
Today and tomorrow former NFL greats from the Giants and the Jets are having an event for children in Central Park...and they aren't even giving away free NFL picks :0) (I am sure that if this was the case, the park would be full of crazy football fans). They will be teaching children how to play football and how to stay healthy, active, and happy. It is open to the public and the children will also be participating in character building activities. There will be free giveaways and the NFL players will be encouraging the 1,000 children to get at least 60 minutes of activity a day.
If you want to see the full list of NFL greats that will be there and all the information about this event, click here.
I think this is a great idea! Those kids really look up to sports stars and will take what they teach them seriously. Maybe now more children will be excited to get outside, play, and be kids!
I just read this article that talks about Alabama state employees will have to have monthly weigh-ins and weight counseling, which I would imagine would include nutrition, exercise, and the possibility of a weight loss supplement. If employees refuse to do the "program" and are considered obese, they will have to fork over $25 a month. Alabama currently has the second highest obesity rate in the country and Alabama is trying to lower its health care costs. A BMI of 30 or above is considered obese, but Alabama is being a little more lenient and allowing a BMI of 35 before the program or fee needs to be implemented. So my question is...is this a good idea and why or why not?
I personally have never tried a dating site, but it really intrigues me. I mean, they have everything from Gothic dating sites to herpes dating sites. Maybe there really is someone for everyone. So would you ever use one?
